If I made my own Transformers movie poster, it would look a little something like this. March 6, 2007

And the song in the background would have these lyrics:
Totally awesome! It’s totally cool!
These are Transformers!
Bow down before them!
They’re totally awesome and…
TOTALLY COOL!!!!

(at this point, a Transformer does an awesome high-kick, so as to really punctuate the word “cool”)

(Note: those are the basic lyrics for all the theme songs I ever compose/sing. For whatever reason, all my songs start with the words “To-tally aweeesome, totallly cooool.” I’m creative like that.)

NOTE: I just realized that it doesn’t make any sense for a poster to have a song.  I guess I mean that whenever you look at the poster, that aforementioned song would suddenly begin to play (?)…or…something.  I don’t know.

December Trip, Part One: Flight to Fort Lauderdale

I know it’s already March, but I’ve been really wanting to post these pictures for a while, and I FINALLY figured out how to do it! Yay! From December 23rd to December 28th, my dad, my brother and myself went to Florida. But not just ANY Florida: KEY WEST and MIAMI!!! To be honest, when I think of Florida, I think of Jeb Bush, Horatio Caine and a bunch of tacky crap with the American flag on it, which is why Key West and Miami shouldn’t really be considered to be part of Florida. Although Horatio Caine is supposed to live in Miami, so I suppose that doesn’t make perfect sense. NEVERTHELESS…

Frank calmly sits in his seat, ignoring the fact that the little boy in the next aisle is flagrantly ignoring the seat belt warning sign and reading what is clearly a dumb book.

Obligatory window shot, loved by amateur photographers everywhere.

For whatever reason, my Dad was really insistent on seeing the beach in Fort Lauderdale. The fact that it was pouring was absolutely no deterrent, and I think in some way, my dad actually preferred to see it this way. He’s dark like that. That rainstorm was no joke though. If I had been driving, I probably would have just pulled over and prayed (or listened to the radio. That’s more likely.), and in fact, some people did – where ever they happened to be. The on-ramp to a major highway? Sure! Floridians have no respect for the road, which is probably why nature has no respect for them (obviously).

I was not kidding about the rain.

Next…Part 2: The drive from Fort Lauderdale to Key West!

Winter, you magnificent bastard. March 6, 2007

Although I loathe winter at a level bordering on white-hot rage, I can’t help but to admire a season that can dump between 50-70 cm of snow on a city in a 48 hour time period. Well played, old man, well played.

Try to contain your excitement. January 25, 2007

Big news, everybody! My brother has fortuitously gained his ticket to potential stardom: he will be a contestant on a new CBC quiz show! The show is called Test the Nation and it airs March 18, so I expect everyone to watch it and then be prepared to witness The Steeve’s Meteroic Rise To Fame! (I’m assuming that once my brother becomes a star, the rest of the family will follow suit – that’s how these things work, right?) Anyways, I’m pretty excited about it because even though the application form to get on the show only asked for his name, profession and a photo, my brother is, quite possibly, the smartest guy I know. So I have a really good feeling that he could win. And if he doesn’t, I think that it goes without saying that he will have brought shame to the family name, and will have to, like, umm…quit the family or something. Yep.

The most epic-y epic that ever epic-ed. January 2, 2007

Could this trailer be more epic?

No. No, it could not. That said, this looks AWWWWWWWWESOME.

Newest Transformer Trailer! (plus product placement for The Strokes!) January 2, 2007

Say what you will about Michael Bay, but I thought that this movie looked awesome before and I still think that it looks awesome now. I’m a little concerned about the look of the Transformers, but I’m hoping that in the context of the movie as a whole, they’ll look super badass, as opposed to how they look now (sort of lame).

Also, is it just me, or does this trailer sort of remind you of Independence Day and/or Jurassic Park?

To dream the impossible dream January 2, 2007

I never thought that I would say this, but I think that TV comedy is actually having a comeback (of sorts). The Office (ok, so it’s still not as funny as the BBC version, but still…), Ugly Betty (based on a Spanish telenovela that, yes, is probably funnier than the American version, but still….), 30 Rock (not always reliable, but I think that we can all agree that Alec Baldwin is HI-larious), Extras (another BBC comedy, but still…) and, perhaps most surprisingly, How I Met Your Mother are all far and away the best TV comedies that I’ve seen in a while (I’m deliberately not including ironically funny shows, like Laguna Beach or Sweet 16 here). This is a good thing, because we all know that writing comedy is HARD. Like, REALLY, REALLY hard, so I can see why it’s not done well very often.

Anyways, the (American) show that I’m most excited about is How I Met Your Mother. Because both shows air on CBS and feature a main character who resembles Charlie Sheen (or in fact IS Charlie Sheen), I initially discarded this show because I thought that it was going to be funny in that Two and a Half Men sort of way (ie, not funny at all). Thankfully, I have recognized my error. The success of the show lies, in large part, with Neil Patrick Harris, and with Jason Segel. Here are some clips with NPH:

LEGENDARY!

SUIT UP!

And as a bonus video, here’s NPH and Jason Segel singing “Confrontation”…

Awww….are you really in your worst shape EVER? That must be so hard for you! God, I feel SO BAD for you! You must be crying on the inside EVERY DAY. Life is SO HARD, don’t you think? And let’s face it, your trainer is right: THIS IS A DISASTER.

Now I’m crying on the inside.
